Migraine aura triggers - I identified mine

Back at the end of August, I started a thread [webmasterworld.com] asking for information on migraine aura triggers, in the hope of identifying what was causing mine, because I've been plagued by them for a few years. Some interesting discussion followed, and whilst I was studying the detail in my aura diary, looking for a common factor, one feature of my diet stood out quite starkly - the fact that I routinely skipped breakfast and would habitually go for many hours without food.

The following day, I started a new regime of eating breakfast and then eating little but often throughout the day - and the auras stopped. The solution, for me, was as simple as that.

I chose oats because they contain complex carbohydrates which, apparently, provide a slow release of energy and help maintain stable blood-sugar levels for several hours after eating. Sometimes I take them as porridge and sometimes I bake my own bread and add a cupful of oats into the dough mixture.

A couple of weeks ago, I was under a lot of pressure and I stopped eating - the migraine auras returned the very next day. I had four of them over the course of a week and then I started eating properly again and they stopped. So, for anybody suffering from any form of migraine, with or without auras, and for which the trigger is still unknown, I would strongly urge you to look at your diet and take particular care to eat a high carbohydrate breakfast and then eat little but often throughout the day in order to maintain reasonable and stable blood-sugar levels.

I have been getting sore heads for about two years and at this very moment I have had this one for three days. I have been to the doc's they gave me some pills to take each day but they never worked and have been in and out of the doc's several times since with new pills and no help! So I have gave up with the doctors as they have no clue. * sigh *

Another cause of migraines:

Anxiety, which causes you to clench your jaw. If you do a fake yawn, and open your jaw wide, and hear/feel a creak, that could be a cause.

Headaches can also be caused by tense muscles at the back of the head/neck.

If you move your head around, and get creaks, or the muscles feel really tight there, get more sleep, rest, eat nourishing food, and be more detached from your work.

It isn't important enough to be getting sick over.

A bit of exercise, a jog, exercising in the home so you get out of breath, is also good.

And drink water. Not gallons, like these 'detox' fools, but enough so your mouth is moist.

Thats a good post.

Quick question, I work all morning then take lunch downstairs.

Why is it after my lunch I walk back up the stairs and 5 seconds later ive got a pulsing sore head?

Very weird.

Errr... what are you eating, and drinking for lunch?

Did you have a proper breakfast to start the day?

Are you so fat and out-of-condition that a walk up the stairs after a heavy meal knackers you?

Migraines run in my family, in my case I have them if ive been working really hard (rare) and then slow down i.e take a few days off.

I normaly guess whats about to happen in the very early stages I have a craving for water, it all looks very warm and comforting, therefore I bath a heck of a lot in the run up.

I find a really good pre-emptive strike is to go to bed with a mug of hot milk that has 2 - 3 caps of whiskey in, that really helps me.

When you suspect you're about to have a migraine, take an aspirin immediately.

It reduces the symptoms.

maybe it's altitude sickness ( it does have some of the symptoms ;-)due to the sudden difference between your normal height and upstairs? ;-))

Maybe you shoud research 'causes of headaches'? and then narrow it down.
