Billionaire investor and dot-com veteran Mark Cuban had harsh words Thursday for YouTube, the online site that lets people share video clips, saying only a "moron" would purchase the wildly popular start-up.

Cuban, co-founder of HDNet and owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, also said YouTube would eventually be "sued into oblivion" because of copyright violations.

"They are just breaking the law," Cuban told a group of advertisers in New York. "The only reason it hasn't been sued yet is because there is nobody with big money to sue."

[techweb.com...]
"If YouTube was to police all submissions, and post only original content from users, the material would be less entertaining, and the site would lose a large percentage of its visitors, Bernoff said.

An example of a video-sharing site that posts only legal content is Revver, which launched out of beta last month and has a far smaller user base than YouTube."

if I owned youtube...I'd hold a fire sale. Maybe sell it for $500 Million :)

Did anyone see the CHARLIE ROSE show last night on PBS? They had Sumner Redstone as a guest and he talked about why he didn't buy YOUTUBE and MYSPACE. Basically, MYSPACE is STILL worth more than the billions people are saying it is. Anyways, very insightful info on what type of companies VIACOM (Redstone's company) are looking to buy. Very good interview! Lots of useful advice and tips. Look for a transcript if possible.

-- YouTube would be so easy to monetize, they should be making TONS of money right now. Have 1-2 second 'sponsored by' intros at the beginning of each clip. It would have to be very short, just the companies logo/product and that's it.--

And what happens when the real copyright holders start demanding their share of the profits?
