Non native-english speakers asking for help.

I know demote may be used in the content of "lower the rank" of something.

But what is the term for "upper the rank"?

The same is true for many opposites in the English language:

Promote vs Demote
Progress vs Degress
Pronounce vs Denounce

... although not to be confused with:
Protect vs Detect
Protest vs Detest

:)

In other instances the opposites are "in" and "de" instead:

Inflate vs Deflate
Infuse vs Defuse

... although not to be confused with:
Instruct vs Destruct

Progress vs Degress

I think you mean "regress" ... "degress" is not a proper word.

heh :o
You're right.

So now we're bringing "re" in the mix as well ...
Promote - Demote - Remote :)
