Tired of "LOL" yet?

Is anyone else tired of seeing "LOL" on instant messages, emails, forums and everywhere else on the web?

I am getting kind of burned out on it.

We should start something new to replace it on WebmasterWorld, and then tell everyone you heard it here first.

Any ideas?

I must admit that I've never been comfortable with terms such as 'LOL', nor do I condone throwing your spelling and grammar out the window. There's nothing wrong or somehow outdated with using proper punctuation. The worst part about the use of 'LOL' is that it is used as a complete sentence but is only an abbreviation of a fragment. At the least those who insist on typing 'LOL' should write 'I am L.O.L.' or 'That made me L.O.L.'. (Depending upon whether the first 'L' is an abbreviation for Laugh or Laughing).

The same goes for sending SMS messages. If you have not used all of your allotted 160 characters then there is no excuse for writing 'CUl8r'. The time the sender feels he has saved is lost again when the bemused recipient attempts to decypher the "abbreviation". Not only that, but one gives the recipient the impression that one neither cares enough about him to write the message properly nor has a knowledge of basic written etiquette.

A bit late: here in .nl the word 'lol' actually means 'fun', as in having fun. Great acronym!
