Message Too Old, No Replies

Tired of "LOL" yet?

Is anyone else tired of seeing "LOL" on instant messages, emails, forums and everywhere else on the web?

I am getting kind of burned out on it.

We should start something new to replace it on WebmasterWorld, and then tell everyone you heard it here first.

Any ideas?

Or how about this one when you're trying to make a new friend online. You could call them:

Amusing Sweet and Silly or...

I still like lol .. it's kind of introduced and formed in to a new language..

We know exactly what it means.. and I don't just mean literally.. Laughs Out Loud .. well it is but it's not, it's more subtle than that, there is not really an English equivelant.. at has it's own strength ...

lol is just fine ...

I don't mind people writing "lol". However what makes me feel creepy is that I have heard people actually saying "lol".

All this time I thought it meant "Lots of Luck".

You are so right. The 'geek boy' admin at my workplace has started saying it all the time. I warned him a couple of times but yesterday I had to give him a dead leg and say "LOL at that you wierd child"

Heh Heh Thursdays are now and forever 'punch the geek boy day'

LOL is not only on the internet.

I've HEARD it also in real life, ehhh, I mean IRL.
I've even said "lol" out loud a couple of times and had to explain it to several less-internet-savvy people.

They now think I'm a real nerd.

Wich I might be, but I like to think I'm not :)

LOL

Is it pronounced "loll" or "ell oh ell"?

"Loll", or "Lawl". Saying it aloud like that is becoming way too common.

I'm also tired of it.
I think I'll start using "Ihaha@U"

My non-techy buddy got tired of my IMing "heh" so we now use 356, which is just as arbitrary.

712 is twice as funny.

I don't like it, never have, have used it on occasion, but never verbally, very tired of it by now. For a replacement, how about GAG? (Giggling and Gasping)

I'm like just so tired you know of those people who like use LOL in like every other sentence. You know? Like it's so lame. LOL is like the most overused term in like the entire universe. Like those people don't know how to like use any other words? Like, what's up with that, you know?

I mean, like I'm gonna use the same thing over and over again? Like it's just so lame! Like, get a vocabulary or something! Or like go to school some more.

Summary of the many things I have learned from this post.

1. Yes, other people are also sick of the overuse of “LOL”.

2. Many people to this day are still not sure of the true meaning of “LOL”.

3. Never use “LOL” when speaking, unless you want to be considered a geek.

4. It is definitely time to end the use of “LOL”.

I tend to use 'lol' online when someone is trying to be funny and I really cant be bothered to make a decent reply!

So I guess half the time I use it as a shrug off.

Use it enough and people either carry on (at which point they go on ignore) or shut up as they start realising its a one sided conversation!

i tend to use lol or :P for stuff that isnt that funny, if something acutaly has some humorous value to it i'll use lmao or rofl.
