Fading images randomly

Hi, I m what you might call a big Flash beginner. I can cobble together some stuff but the inner workings are a bit of a blur!

What I am trying to do is create a bar at the bottom of a webpage with 4 images all fading in and out from a library of about 20 images.

I have created a flash movie and imported my jpegs into the library. I have then turned these into movie clips and created a motion tween over 120 frames to fade in, stay faded in and then fade out.

What would be perfect if there was a way to somehow have some actionscript that randomly plays a movieclip, waits for it to finish and then randomly do another one...

Is this possible and if so any pointers on how to do it.
