I just got a notification of a Flash Player security update, which happens occasionally. I keep forgetting it's on my system. I was trying to remember the last site I saw that was using Flash Player, and I can't.

Flash Player is due to be officially retired this year, but, really, is there any point in keeping the software on a system?

It is not currently updating (for a very long time now) on my OS and has been disabled in my browser for years. Do newer Edge and Chrome still show Flash content?

The only three reasons for retaining I can think of:
1. you never know when info in an old format might be required or of interest.

2. trips down memory et lane if you ever built anything in Director, Flash, Shockwave et al. See (1) above.

3. several repositories are archiving Flash games. See (1) and (2) above.

Note: I still have file boxes of 5-1/4 floppies. Yes iamlost is a tech hoarder. You never know!? as the dust deepens...

I can't remember that last time the browser asked for activation.

Going back in time, I have to admit to producing Flash presentations and sites with Flash content. I never did like the full Flash site. No doubt my archives will have some of those old sites and presentations on there, but, i'm happy not to want to see those again.

As it's a security risk to retain Flash Player without updating, at the next software update prompt I think i'll remove Flash Player entirely.

It is not currently updating (for a very long time now) on my OS and has been disabled in my browser for years.
It updates CONSTANTLY--say, every couple of weeks--on Firefox, even though FF has long required you to authorize Flash on every site that asks for it. The authorization isn’t even remembered, the way other exemptions like AdBlock would be; you have to tell them over again every day. And yes, the Adobe Flash update site carries a large message about End Of Life. It does make you wonder what kinds of gaping security holes they have to keep filling.

I continue to let it update, even though I only go to one site that uses Flash--and most of that site’s Flash-using functions will no longer work, as of a few updates ago. Instead they have an information screen that insists they’re planning to move up to HTML 5, though they never explain what’s taking them so long.
