Photoshop -> Illustrator -> Flash... Not working?

Hi,
I tried to create path in Photoshop CS, and then exported the path using "Export -> Paths to Illustrator" as an .ai file.

I then opened the file in Illustrator CS and triggered the 'outline' function from the right-click menu in order to see the path. (I am not sure why the path did not show up)

Finally, I exported this .ai as a .swf file, and tried to open it in Flash MX, but nothing came up, just an empty page.

Any help and advice on solving this problem will be very much appreciated.

hehe. (I've tried it too.) No that won't work. Adobe and Macromedia don't talk to each other much. :-)

The reason it didn't "show up" in Illustrator is because the raw path from PS didn't have any stroke applied. It's just a path with no width.

You can, however, create paths in Freehand which comes with the MX suite that DO import into Flash. You might be able to create whatever you're doing in Illustrator, save it as an .eps, and open it in Freehand. Probably.

This is all pretty much "working against the stream" though, if you want to build vectored art and bring it into Flash, you're best off learning Freehand and bringing it in from there.

Once you've imported the path into flash, try doing a "Select All" from the Edit menu and see if that path doesn't get highlighted. Then you can apply a stroke color in Flash. :)

Hi rocknbil,
As I am working from a photo, which need a lot of image enhancement, so I have to start from Photoshop. Is there no other way to allow an interaction between Illustrator and Flash MX 2004?

Hi whoisgregg,
I tried the method you mentioned but the 'select all' option was not turned on, so I could not even trigger it. :(

I will be really grateful if someone can solve this problem for me. Thank you in advance.

Mmmm . . . did you try saving the image itself as a .tif or .jpg, then importing it into Freehand? You can do the vector work over the image from there . . . maybe if you explain the task someone might have an idea of the best solution.

Going from Photoshop to Illustrator to Flash is too much trouble. EIther import youyr image in Illustrator and export as a SWF or import directly in Flash and trace there.
