Resizing Pictures and Multiple File Upload

Is it possible to resize pictures before uploading them in flash

Hi, first let me say that I am not a flash programmer. I am interested if this is possible and if so....is there a product already out there that does this.

I know that you can do multiple file uploads with flash, but can you have the flash code resize pictures BEFORE uploading them? We currently using XUpload which is an ActiveX control. It does not allow the files to be resized before being uploaded. I've looked into JUpload on sourceforge and it works and it is cross-browser, but I'm having some technical difficulties in getting it to work and am a little hesitant to go with a Java applet if not necessary.

So, my basic question is: Is it technically possible for Flash to resize a picture before it is uploaded and then upload the resized picture to save bandwidth?
