Mozilla status bar still says transferring data

I have a normal html page that contains a small Flash file whose purpose is to load the contents of a text file. All works well, except that in Mozilla/Firefox the status bar says "transferring data from ht*p://etc" even after the data has been successfully loaded. I've noticed this not just on my sites but also on others where loadVariables is used to load external content. Has anyone come across this? All is well in IE.

Other scripts that work in IE don't work in Firefos, like shuting down a browser window from Flash. I'm not sure if the back page button script works either. I'll have to test it too.
