I want to improve my static digital art training ebooks (PDF format) and make my next versions more like real self-taught training classes, by including not only PDF files, but voice narrated screen recorded videos, plus quizes, lesson plans (maybe PowerPoint) and other HTML compatible materials.
So, i need to control and integrate PDFs, 'Camtasia Studio' screen recording videos (flavors of SWF with audio) and HTML.
The idea is to provide a ZIP file for download and maybe distribute on CD/DVD as well. Maybe use a standard software installer and some kind of script to control everything.
And finally, my question:
Is Flash the appropriate tool for all this? I'd hate to spend the money for the latest professional version of Flash (being a one-guy shop on a small budget) and find it is not the best tool.
Thanks all!
You could create a user interface in flash to cotrol all the videos, quizzes and lesson plans (all these resources can be embedded, created or streamed directly in flash). For the pdf's it is possible to launch them from the swf (but they would still open in acrobat reader).
It won't be easy, particularly if you are new to flash but IMO this approach would produce the best resuslts.
I don't suppose you (anyone?) know a way to open a pdf file to a particular spot on a particular page?
For example, launch a video from a link in a pdf, then jump back to the same spot in the pdf after the video completes? Or open an HTML window from pdf with the video, then close it?
I am new to Flash, but have some experience with SwishMax and with various kinds of scripting. Does sound like a whole lot more work than still images in a PDF though.
Have tried the Camtasia Studio end of the task and that is quite easy and effective.
