FLASH MX v/s FLASH 5

What extra features does FLASH MX give?

Hi,

I would like to know what extra features does Flash MX has, compared to Flash 5.

Is there any way of applying filters/effects (certain effects) to graphic forms in Flash. (excluding the text effects given by Swish)

Er can't remember all... but mainly enhanced facilities e.g. improved colour editing, scripting (code hinting), creating components.

That's all I can think of.

Not sure what you mean by "graphic forms" but you can do all the standard fades, motion tweening/shapes al la V5.

I'm not a Flash fan, but it sounds like the yet-to-be-released Flash MX Pro has some new forms functionality:

Develop applications in a forms-based authoring environment that’s familiar to developers who use visual development tools such as Microsoft Visual Basic. Forms provide an alternative metaphor that can be used instead of, or in conjunction with, the Macromedia Flash timeline.

Heaps... I would name them all but I don't know all of them yet, to name a few, the transformation tool, file network update capabilities, icon image changes, buttons now have instances, actionscript has undergone a massive renovation, which means your more likely to need a book to upgrade to Flash MX from 5 like myself!, for example the way the AS book is organized, one change that took a while myself to get out of is the CTRL+ALT+A (ActionScript Panel in Flash 5) is now F9 for the panel, probably one of the best things are the dockable panels and the placement of them and also the dockable panels similar across the entire macromedia product range...which is really good

Once I finish reading my book which will be sometime near christmas I will post a list of differences I find.

Hope this answers some Qs? Though this may look scary in terms of changes, they are actually for the better
