Problem w/Firefox

won't reinstall

My problem started when my installed version of the new 1.5 beta of FF started acting odd. I unstalled it using the XP control panel, then downloaded and tried to install 1.07.

It wouldn't install. So I tried a fresh download of 1.5 .. it wouldn't install.

I have used a registry cleaner (not an editor) and deleted all the old FF folders (I think) .. still won't install.

I feel that I must be missing a step as 2 previous versions installed flawlessly.

Any advice (and yes, I already have Opera):)

You should try to delete your user profile usually
C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox

Hello DanA,

Yes, did that already, deleted folders under /programs .. I'm afraid it might be a registry thing and I'm afraid to tamper with it.

You have to delete the firefox folder in c:\program files and the firefox profiles in C:\Documents and Settings\...

instead of deleting the profile folder, just move/rename it, that way you will be able to copy over your bookmarks, and any other tweaks you made.. e.g. user.js to the new default profile that FF creates

All deleted already (I saved the bookmarks .html file)

The application won't even open an install window - on 'run' or command line either. I believe it might be a windows (xp sp1) issue, although I have been able to install some other software.

I have plenty of RAM (I believe .. 1g) and have re-installed windows xp .. but I really don't want to do a complete format since I have my desktop set up with an apache, php, mysql server.

I tried the installation by shutting down Apache, mySQL phpmyadmin, Zone Alarm and McAfee .. <sigh>

To my knowledge, firefox does not rely on the Windows registry at all.

1.5rc1 is due out in 24 hours so it might fix the whole issue for you.
*Lots* of little bug fixes.
