Mozilla Firefox is pushing an extension to corral FB tracking in the most recent update.

Might be useful to those who have concerns regarding FB tracking across the web.

You can read it in the release notes for Firefox 74.0 [mozilla.org].
New
Facebook Container prevents Facebook from tracking you around the web - Facebook logins, likes, and comments are automatically blocked on non-Facebook sites. But when you need an exception, you can now create one by adding custom sites to the Facebook Container.

ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM!

I updated to 74.0 a couple of days ago. Then today when I tried to log in to the cPanel of one of my hosting accounts, I got an error message about an insecure connection instead.

After another attempt I noticed a message at the bottom of the error page which said that the problem could be due to TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 being disabled by default in 74.0.

But it gave me an option to re-enable these, and when I did, I was able to login.

The release note on this matter says:
We have disabled TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 to improve your website connections. Sites that don't support TLS version 1.2 will now show an error page.

IMPORTANT: The note at the bottom of the error page said that TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 WILL BE PERMANENTLY DISABLED in the future.

Problem: I just searched all the Firefox options and couldn't find an option for this? If it hadn't been for the note at the bottom of the error page that gave me the option to re-enable, I couldn't have found any other way to do it.

So now I'm thinking that I may stop updating Firefox, at least for a while.

:: quick detour to (a) piwik login and (b) host's control panel to make sure host is reasonably up-to-date on TLS protocols ::

Whew. It is better to know this thing ahead of time.

So now I'm thinking that I may stop updating Firefox, at least for a while.
Shouldn't you instead be thinking it's time to nag at your host?

Difficult to say if your host is the problem or Firefox. With these changes in 74.0, Firefox is negatively impacting the user experience for a significant number of sites. Most users who see their Internet experience deteriorate because of Facebook's inter-site functionality not working, or who encounter difficulties accessing sites without TLS 1.2 enabled, won't have the knowledge, nor the understanding why this is happening and simply replace Firefox with a browser that works.

Everything will eventually be TLS 1.2 ... might as well start now.

My bookmark for that cPanel is at least 3 or 4 years old, and they've upgraded to newer versions of cPanel since then.

So that might have caused my login problem. Maybe it depends on whether they re-direct to the current cPanel before or after the login.
