Great news for those of us Firefox users that really dislike the autoplay of audio when visiting a site.
Firefox 66, which is due March 19, 2019, in Android and Desktop first, will automatically block, by default, until a user interaction to play the audio or video is made.
The existing block autoplay will be replaced.
If a user chooses autoplay for specific sites, there will be an option to change the default setting for that particular site.
At this time, we’re also working on blocking autoplay for Web Audio content, but have not yet finalized our implementation. We expect to ship with autoplay Web Audio content blocking enabled by default sometime in 2019.
