Firefox 39.x is SLOW SLOW Slow!

I updated to FF 39.x a couple weeks ago when there was some urgent upgrade needed.

This this is SO slowwwwwww that I can often open IE 11 (from closed) and load the page before it comes up in FF.

It's nuts.

Even clicking on bookmarks in the bookmark column is crazy. You can click a bookmark and literally wait several seconds (10?) before the mark even lights up and then wait some more before the action (waiting for, etc) shows up at the bottom of the screen and then wait some more for the new page to actually open.

I've never seen FF be this slow.

I've run malware bytes (latest update) thinking I might have picked up something, can't find anything. Windows security essentials (or whatever it's called) runs every morning, nothing found.

Any ideas what to look for?

It almost seems like it is hogging all the memory, because if I reboot the machine it's fine for a while, but gets worse and worse as time goes on. But even at FF worst, IE pops right along?

Is there any reason you are not running the latest version of FF? I'm on 40.0.3 and have no speed issues at all. As for IE11, MS finally got that part right. :)

Only that I don't normally keep up with all the endless stream of updates. I didn't even know there was a 40.03.

OK, updated.

Hopefully that will fix the issue.
