moving back to IE would be quite cumbersome, who would have thought how vital are copy and paste commands!

I would suggest you uninstall and then re-install Firefox. Your bookmarks and most preferences will be preserved, but it's possible that some extensions will have to be re-installed.

thx Jim,

steps I have gone through[so far]:

1. Uninstall V1.5
2. Downgrade to V1.07 (problem still there)
3. Upgrade again to V1.5 - (problem still there)

well i searched G, it seems there are 2 'copy bugs', one is quite old, the other one is an emerging one!

Maybe a registry problem if you're using XP.

The other possibility is that an old extension is causing problems. You might try disabling them and adding them back in one at a a time.

I've got my Firefox on XP Pro fairly well 'loaded up' with extensions, but Control-C and Control-V, Firefox Edit context menu Copy/Cut/Paste, and Firefox toolbar Copy/Cut/Paste icons all seem to work fine here.

okay, ..

i uninstalled 'scrapbook' [the only extention i use], same problem

and unistalled FireFox, restarted computer and installed from scratch, the problem persists.

Jim, I wonder it has got to do with the new Windows patches, have you installed them?

that is an bug,

*Firefox bug on Windows*
There is a bug on Windows systems that cause the clipboard to randomly not
work. This bug is slated to be fixed in 1.5.0.3. In the meantime, minimizing
the application and restoring it may restore clipboard functionality.

Here are soem texts about it:

Yes, fully patched. I've never seen this problem, though. Not that a sample of one -either way- is significant.

Since Copy/Paste is a function that interfaces with the system (clipboard), it still strikes me as a 'registry thing.'

Thanks, cafedelmar.

From the bugzilla thread at [bugzilla.mozilla.org...]

------- Comment #72 From Computer Guru 2006-04-25 06:04 PDT -------

Resolved.
After extensive research, it becomes apparent that there are two bugs here:

1) *Randomly* does not allow copying from the Core, on all OSes. *This* has
been fixed with the patch above.
2) Copy and paste *never* works, and only on Windows. *This* is a
spyware/malware issue.

I hope this clears matters up.

(Emphasis added)

If you are experiencing 100% failures on Windows platforms, run a scan for keyloggers now!

I agree, malware is the most likely candidate given the symptoms. Certainly, another program is probably interfering.

That interference could be associated with keyloggers, etc or more directly with the clipboard. Since it affects menu commands too, the latter may be more likely.
