I was using IE. Downloaded firefox and tuned it up as described in another thread. I downloaded a couple of extensions and was having fun, and then....it wouldn't load. I removed the program, and re-installed. Nothing. However, it does show up in my Zone Alarm as active, but nothing shows on the screen. I shut off ZA and tried, nothing. Can someone point me in a direction.
Thanks,
Goober
BTW; IE never stopped working.
Howdy,I was using IE. Downloaded firefox and tuned it up as described in another thread.
You mean the thread where I described a few little settings in about:config? Did you try to start FireFox between the time you tuned it up and the time you installed your extensions? Also, what version of FireFox are you using?
I downloaded a couple of extensions and was having fun, and then....it wouldn't load.
What extensions did you install? It's normally good practice to install extensions one at a time until you know which ones you like and which ones work. That way, if one causes a problem, you know which one it is.
I removed the program, and re-installed. Nothing.
I think this here is the key. Did you delete your Profile folder as well? If not, all the extensions you downloaded - along with the problem one - are still stored in your profile and will still cause the problem until you get rid of the old profile. To create a new profile, make a shortcut to FireFox. Right-click the shortcut, then in the "Target" text box, enter "-p" without the quotes, after the final double quote after the target. The target text would then look something like this:
"D:\Program Files\FireFox 0_9_2\firefox\firefox.exe" -p This opens FireFox using the Profile Manager. Create a new profile, select to open it, then select the checkbox for "Don't ask at startup." Then, click "Start FireFox." Once you've started it with the new profile, you can remove the -p from your shortcut target.
However, it does show up in my Zone Alarm as active, but nothing shows on the screen.
Check the Windows Task Manager and shut down the FireFox process.

Right, that's because IE and FireFox are entirely separate browsers and don't affect one another. Installing FireFox can't (to my knowledge) do anything to Internet Explorer.
Thanks for the input. I only downloaded a couple of extensions. I will look for the folder when I get home.
Yes I did use the config changes you suggested and there wasn't any problem using FF. I then got the extensions. Only three, drag and drop, some bookmark extension and one other. Can't remember, I'm not at home to check.
It was downloaded last night, so unless they've slipped a new version out, it's the latest.
I will clean it up and try again.
Thanks for your prompt response,
