Firefox forgetting cookies?

I moved from IE a couple weeks ago and about the only problem I'm having is that Firefox appears to be deleting cookies after a couple days. For instance, I visit several forums atleast once a day that need login info for entry. In IE I could go months without having to type in login info because the site got the info from a cookie. But in Firefox every couple days I need to manually login.

I don't see anything in options that could be handicapping the cookies, so I don't know what's up.

There's a setting that accepts a cookie for the "current session only".

Maybe you have that selected?

Tools>Options>Privacy>Cookies

That does sound like the problem, but no, it's set to "Accept cookies normally"

Check your settings under

Tools>Options>Privacy>Saved Passwords

as well.

I have the same problem with some forums. The cookies are lost when the browser is closed. All settings are correct.

I have no idea of the authenticity of this, but I found something to suggest that there is/was a bug that gave a hard limit on the number of cookies stored by Firefox:
[q.queso.com...]

Netscape has set a 300 limit on cookies and deletes the least recently used cookie when the limit is exceeded ( Netscape Reference [devedge.netscape.com] ) So it makes sense that the same limit appears in any Mozilla browser.

Does that account for what you are seeing - a number of the sites you visit regularly are placing boatloads of cookies (near the limit of 20 per server), or you visit a boatload of sites that place cookies.

Having actually reading the link I posted, there is a long Bugzilla page on this:

As far as I can make out, scanning it, there is a limit on both the maximum number of cookies (300) and the number of cookies per server (20).

I think this behaviour will change in version 1.0, but is still present in 0.9.
