firefox not remembering passwords anymore

About a week or so ago my firefox 3.0.4 stopped remebering passwords for all sites. even my other addons like fireftp wont remember the passwords. nothing i do can restore this functionality.

i have that option checked under tools - options - security to remember passwords but no luck. also ive looked in my profile folder to not find any files that people suggest.

thinking now about re-installing my browser, any ideas?

You have the option when uninstalling to keep all your user settings. That includes bookmarks and addons...
