Firefox opens certain pages as local temp files

Firefox views local temp file instead of browing certain urls

Depending on how this works out, this could belong here, or security, servers, or who know... but I'll start with this

Using firefox 3.0.4 if I browse to
mysites path index.html

it displays, but in a new window with the address changed to a local path

file:///C:/DOCUME~1/Owner/LOCALS~1/Temp/index-1.html

go back and do it again and same thing but path is

file:///C:/DOCUME~1/Owner/LOCALS~1/Temp/index-2.html

The first time this happened I got the popup "you have chosen to open filename.html which is a firefox document" and I chose firefox to open it and checked the box for it to default to open it. But it opens it as a file from the temp folder.

I've checked it on another computer. Same thing. I've discovered a few different pages on different domains that do this. All on the same server. Uploading test pages with the same name does not change the behavior. I can however upload different named files in those folders and display them with no effect.

I'm not sure, but I think these may be pages that at one time were defaced in a hack. I don't see anything in .htacess

No problem in explorer. I'm hoping someone would know why firefox would do this and help me pin down what is going on.

Just wondering where I should poke around next?
