hello,
i keep trying to upload a page that has an image called with an absolute path. it works fine on ie and fine on firefox when testing on my machine, but when i upload it, there is no image nor even a red x with firefox. When I view source the entire <img src> tag is not present (again, only with firefox).

any ideas

i have no idea whats going on here.
Turns out it was never working in IE either.
When I move the image to a folder other than one called 'ads', i don't have any problem either with FF or IE.

i have no, nor have i ever had any adblockers installed.

You may think that you don't, but you do. Are you running any "security suite" software? Many anti-virus suites include adblockers. Another possibility is that you have blocked images from that one particular directory in Firefox, but the fact that the images don't show in IE either pretty much rules that out.

Of course, even if you fix the problem on your machine, don't forget that many of your users will be using adblocking software, so you should never use directory names like

/ads/
if you want your images to show.

i'm running mcafee's suite. i haven't found any settings yet, but i'll keep looking.
i'll definitely avoid the ads folder as i always have. it's basically where i keep the creative before uploading it to the adserver (which lies in a folder called 'nortonsafe')

I had a similar problem with Norton and a file called sponsor.js
I just had to rename the file or let it vanish. Luckily it wasn't critical content although the sponsors could have been a bit upset (naming sponsors who helped fund a charity's web site)

things are getting curioser and curioser. other images within the 'ads' folder are displaying fine.

*** a folder other than one called 'ads' ***

Usually, it is some version of Norton that is doing that. It works off the image size as well as the names.

Have you ever had Norton installed? Remnants might remain and be involved.

that would make sense, since the image that's being removed is sort of banner size (408X150). I don't standard sizes specifically for this reason. The image that is being shown is large ( an 8.5 in X 11 in coupon for printing).

i'll go check for norton remnants as there may have been the standard trial package installed when i bought the computer.
