Firefox 2.0.0.8 released [mozilla.com]

Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Support:
Firefox 2.0.0.8 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5, although there are some known issues affecting some media plugins.

Also, security issues were fixed [mozilla.org] and a few new languages are available.

Some bad news: This update fixed over 200 problems, but re-introduced several previous problems. Mozilla plans another update soon, hopefully in the coming week, to Firefox/2.0.0.9

More information here [developer.mozilla.org].

I have been losing my bookmarks in 2.0.0.8 several times since the upgrade. One day they are fine and there as expected, the next they are gone. This is happening on a HP laptop. Didn't have this issue before the upgrade. Anyone else having the issue?

How can I get my bookmarks back? The file itself is now blank as if it was the first time I installed the browser

Sometimes if you have problems with an upgrade, uninstalling and then re-installing Firefox will fix the problems. This is especially true if you have done an upgrade across major revision levels, such as 1.x to 2.x.

In most cases, uninstalling and then reinstalling will not lose your bookmarks, add-ons, or themes. However, it is a good idea to make a backup of the files in the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random-string>.default directory, in case you need to restore any of these items.

Most users won't see any difference or experience any problems

I guess I was one of the "Most" users.

FireFox will be less capable than IE without add-ons, I guess.

I got the 2.0.0.9 update [en.www.mozilla.com] a couple of days ago via the usual update mechanism. This release is supposed to have corrected the problems with the buggy 2.0.0.8 version.

So whilst it's unfortunate that Mozilla released a buggy update, at least they patched it very quickly!
