I woke up this morning and opened the computer. Firefox decided it was gonna update itself without my knowledge sometime before. As I opened the browser, all preferences were gone - only my passwords remained.

I got a message telling that I had successfully update Firefox - not FF2.0, the one before. But all my bookmarks are gone. Nothing left. That's ten years of bookmarks lost. There's no point retrieving an older version, there are too many changes.

Thanks a lot firefox.

Harry,

Sorry to hear of your problems. Its always a good idea to do an export of your bookmarks just in case this sort of thing happens. Maybe something worth considering next time?

I had the same thing happen, and immediately went to Bookmarks->Manage Bookmarks... and File->Import... the most-recent backup FF2 makes each day (or on browser close). Whew! That was close! I now manually copy the bookmarks.html file and the contents of my searchengineplugins directory into My Documents at least once per week, just in case ...
