Firefox showing old, cached versions of pages after cache is emptied

Firefox 1.5.0.6 on a Mac using OS 10.2.8

I'm using a Mac using OS 10.2.8 and Firefox 1.5.0.6 and have always had it configured to empty the cache when quitting the application.

When I'm working on my site and updating pages, it will often display an old version of some pages rather than reading them off the server as they are. This even happens after I've quit it, opened it, and cleared the cache again.

I've looked around for the cache file so I could delete it, and haven't been able to find it. What's the file name?

Thanks!

Hi there Car_Guy,

Unfortunately, I can not speak for 'Mac'. :(

In windows, however, typing about:cache in the address bar will bring up Memory cache device and Disk cache device.
Under Disk cache device is the Cache Directory which lists the path as follows...

file/// C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xm1itejy.default\Cache

I hope that this helps. ;)

Car_Guy,

User_Root>Library>Mozilla>Profiles>default>d9ok4e90.slt>Cache

Note, d9ok4e90.slt may have a different name, but what ever is in the default directory will have this directory which holds the cache file.

I'd like to thank those of you that offered your help. I waited to follow up on this until the problem was solved.

Today, after struggling with this for too long, I called where my site is hosted and told the tech what was happening. He went to a page on my site and sure enough, there was a version of it from two months ago. Of the four servers my site is hosted on, he determined which server he had just accessed, and he did something with its cache. Now everything is fine.

He's been the tech there for ten years, and they had never seen this happen before.

Man, this never ends. It looks like I'm having another bad day.

I just walked out of the shop to wash my hands, and happened to glance in the mirror. I was surprised to see how exceptionally awesome I looked. Then I realized that the mirror was displaying a cached version.
