about:config question

Does anyone know how to kill the "Additional plug-ins are required to display all the media on this page" notice that I keep getting with 1.0? (Probably getting it cause I don't have/want Flash installed on my browser). I can't recall ever seeing it with 0.9. I looked through the about:config list and didn't spot it.

Sorry, I don't know how to make that bar go away, but I'm getting a perverse pleasure from it each time. It's amazing how much more pleasant and friendlier the web is without Flash. I'd always known it was annoying for intros or all Flash sites, but hadn't realized how irritating its use as page elements had become. I'm enjoying experimenting with Mozilla, and one of my favorite parts is no flash!

[Contrariwise, I have the flash plugin enabled for FF. I don't mind navigating away from a site which wants to load a .swf, and there are places I go I have to have it to load something I WANT.... I don't have a clue what "other" plugins might be missing though....]

I remain hopeful. There has to be a way of getting rid of that thing... it makes my browser window shorter. I'm using Littlefox as the theme, because it gives me more webpage and less IE type clutter at the top, and it bugs me to see anything intruding on it.

As far as Flash goes, I can't handle that stuff flashing at me. I keep the install file handy in case I really need it for a site, and then promptly delete the plug-in file afterwards.

I am not a Flash fan either. The Flashblock extension will replace all Flash and Shockwave objects with a harmless button which you can click if you actually want to see the stuff. So, you can then install Flash and not get that bar at the top of your page.

Where do you get this from? I couldn't find it amongst the FireFox extensions.

But then there's no proper search facility. Maybe I should report Mozilla to WebPagesThatSuck....

ah yes...that's one of the ones over at mozdev.org. They have a nice collection that doesn't always show up on the official page. I could have sworn that Flashblock used to be on the main list...

Great stuff, Bill. I'd heard about flashblock but didn't see it on the regular extensions page. That one gets dl'ed and added today.

What a find! Flashblock looks like one of the best. I am headed over to mozdev to see what else I've been missing.

What I would really like to find is the feature in Opera that allows your browser to open where you left off the night befor. All the tabs opening just as you shut it down.

There is an extension called Session Saver [texturizer.net] which does that but it hasn't been updated since 0.8 so I'm not sure if it will work with 1.0.

Gary I had just installed the latest version of Session Saver befor your post. It seems to be working fine and it's recently updated. I had to do some digging to find it as it's not in the main list. Session Saver 0.2.1.025 [extensionsmirror.nl]
