Small Html problem

IE leaves a gap firefox doesn't?

There's this problem with a couple of my pages that has been bugging me for a while now. On the homepage IE leaves a gap between the buttons and the search box, i don't want a gap! If you view the same page in firefox it renders it how i won't.

Can anyone please point out what i'm doing wrong!

Sounds like the line break problem to me.

Go into your HTML and remove any line breaks between the two elements that are improperly spaced.

EXAMPLE:

<input type="text" />
<input type="button" />

Change it to:

<input type="text" /><input type="button" />

And all should be well :)

Thanks but I don't mean the space between the text box and the sarch button, i meant the horizontal gap below the web, images... buttons.

Have you put your mark-up through the W3C HTML Validator [validator.w3.org]?

That's the place to start debugging any rendering problem. Only if you know your code is well-formed can you hope to fix cross-browser issues.

And only if you actually show us the code can we help you find any problems in it. Try snipping out the relevant part of your html code (and the relevent parts of your CSS, if you have any) and post those here for us to see.

And also explain the business problem(s) caused if visitors see a gap between the text and the search button. This would help sort out a relevant solution for you.

You havent used some <p> tags have you? I had a problem where firefox uses a bigger gap than IE.... If so just take them out...

Better still if they're in different paragraphs, is to control the width between them by means of CSS.

SImple css issue, you need to be specific for things to work properly all the time - proper coding.

You will need to set your margins and padding for everything, be spercific and it will work fine.

Dont want spacing - make sure padding is 0

Also, make sure you've addressed any quirks mode/standards mode [webmasterworld.com] issues. This can create unwanted gaps below images on some browsers.
