as title: either from "open link in new window" command or by trying to launch a second occurence of FF? was working OK until I had to reboot earlier today :(

Have rebooted again, no change
have manually killed the process via task manager..

anyone had this before or give some pointers what to try?

Try creating a new profile, see if it's any different.

also what extensions are you running?

You're not going crazy Suzy - I have a similar problem at times.
I am fairly certain it's a badly coded extension - trying to track it down.
Really hoping it wasn't something in the last batch of microsoft patches!

thanks you two and you're right it was an extension

I had downloaded extension auto updates yesterday, which didn't kick in until I rebooted today, but amznvibe it could be the latest MS updates? I downloaded them before rebooting too..

FYI I ran firefox.exe -safe-mode from the command prompt which quickly disabled all extensions and showed that FF was then working OK so it had to be one of them!

Then I went back in normal mode, disabled them all the long way.. and just re-enabled them one by one until the culprit showed itself (it was SearchStatus in my case).
I uninstalled it and then re-installed it direct from it's source.. everything seems to be AOK now

shan't be installing from the autoupdater for a while!
