Firefox Update Lost everything

...all my extensions, moved all of my bookmarks out of their folders into one big folder.

I swear I am about to cry!

Can I restore my old Firefox somehow? Maybe this is just the profile issue and I can go back to my old profile?

*argh*

I may hate IE but at least it upgrades smoothly...

Ouch - to be honest I have not upgraded FireFox in quite some time and have few extensions on it (Opera is my browser of choice and it upgrades wonderfully!).

Anyone else seen this? Any solutions or advice for itrainu?

I have heard of people here mention system 'roll back'. It may be a solution but don't know how effective it would be at storing browser settings.

Ah...I figured out how to get back to my original profile. I am glad that I didn't check "load this profile automatically" because I cannot figure out in Firefox how to switch profiles once logged into a profile.

Really scary - didn't realize how much I depend upon my bookmarks and extensions ;-)

I won't be upgrading Firefox at home for a little while and will be sure to back up :-)

My experience with the Firefox updates is that they have been very smooth, but I couldn't sleep if it wasn't backed up. The same goes for Thunderbird.

Most Firefox updates are very smooth. Firefox the program and your profile are stored in completely different locations. It is usually advisable to uninstall Firefox before installing a newer version.

Firefox itself is installed here (by default):
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\

Your profile, by default, is here:
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.?

The [user] is whatever user you are logged into Windows XP as. The? at the end is a random 3-character string for security. Within the Firefox directory in the profile path, there is a profiles.ini which has the information on profiles within your user on this computer.

To backup your Firefox profile, just backup everything from Firefox on down (including profiles.ini) in the profile path. To restore, just copy it all back.

To manage multiple profiles, just start Firefox with the -profilemanager commandline option as shown here:
