Changing my Firefox profile

I recently closed Firefox, only to have it keep running in the background. When I tried to run it again, it asked me for a profile. I closed it, opened Task Manager, and ended the Firefox process.

Now, when I open Firefox, it isn't using my old profile. All my bookmarks are gone.

How do I switch back to my old one? I can't find the option anywhere.

Thanks,
Numberman

Hi there,

To choose a Firefox profile, you need to create a desktop shortcut to the firefox.exe file. Right-click the shortcut, then choose "Properties" from the menu. In the "Target" line, enter "-p" (without the quotes) at the very end. If the target path includes quotes, enter the -p after the final quote. Click OK to close the Properties dialog, then click the shortcut. It should open the Firefox Profile Manager, where you'll be able to choose from a list of profiles, create a new one, etc.

However, from what you've said, I doubt you have two profiles. My gut feeling is that your old profile was somehow corrupted and that your bookmarks may be outright lost. Check your profile folder (or search your computer) for a bookmarks.html file. If you find one, make a copy of it in a safe location, then open it in your browser to see if your bookmarks are there.

And post back if you have any questions! ;)

Hope this helps,

Matthew
