Since ages ago I could not get a connection to the internet using Firefox.

I never found what the problem was or a solution so I just put it on the back-burner.

This evening just playing around I switched off Norton Personal Firewall and bingo! problem solved. I have Windows XP Home SP2 which I believe has a Firewall anyway so I guess I am O.K. to have done what I have done?!

But I am surprised that I haven't seen this Firefox/Norton conflict reported anywhere - or did I just miss it?

My second reason in as many weeks to feel less than happy with Norton. They may be about to lose my business.

Or is the answer to just run Norton Antivirus and look elsewhere for all other protection?

I would be interested in any comments on this issue.

I have only spent a short time with Firefox but I can feel it being my default browser already. Again is that the common consensus?

I've got a machine that runs Firefox and Norton Firewall on XP with no troubles. The problems sometimes come if you make some initial "automated" configuration in the Friewall and forget about it -- or find out how to change it.

I had been using Norton Firewall fine for awhile and then all of a sudden (I can't think of any important changes I made) nothing internet related worked anymore (Opera, IE, AIM, etc). Once I turned Norton off, the internet worked fine again (fyi, I'm on cable). Is it just the one browser that you're having a problem with or anything internet related?
