"Foreign-language" speakers of English live in places where English is not singled out in any formal way, and tend to learn it to communicate with people from elsewhere. Examples might be Japanese who travel abroad on business and Italians who work in tourism in their own country. The distinction between the two categories of non-native speakers is sometimes blurry. In Denmark and Sweden the overwhelming majority of children are taught English in school -- does that constitute a special status?

So in terms of SEO and marketing Danish is the language you need to use to target most people here. You can use english to taget some but only a very few if you use german, greenlandic or Faroese. On top of that most SE's filter on .dk TLDs or will only accept pages in Danish.
Aha! Ach so! Zey are diskriminating against ze VERY schmall minority, eh? Zat is not a pretty pikture you are painting here! Wot vill zey do if ze Germans ask for all of ze words back zat ze Danes have borroved? Like wienerbrød und frikadeller? Zey vill haff to be kalled Danish pastry und meatballs!
Not wanting to be the cause of a civil war i Denmark, I will add CIA's "small minority" to the main entry above. I will strike Faroese when they gain their independence, which I understand is in the cards. As to Greenlandic, I guess it will remain one of the burdens that colonial powers have to carry ;)
>just as many swedes here as germans
Sure. But they are there to buy cheap beer only.
How to define? As spoken of your parents? Learnt in school?
Spoken of the people around you?
In the south of Jylland there are people called german. born in Danmark, and their native language is german, though their nationality is danish. (called german minority, the same on the other site of the german-danish borderline in Schleswig-Holstein: native language danish with a "D" in the passport)
Not to become a historian I only want to say: there are many reasons that danske may deny the minority of german people.
The discussion about Denmark has now become so long that it is difficult to load over a normal modem. It will continue in Denmark part 2 here [webmasterworld.com]
