Interesting debate, here's another view:

"Foreign-language" speakers of English live in places where English is not singled out in any formal way, and tend to learn it to communicate with people from elsewhere. Examples might be Japanese who travel abroad on business and Italians who work in tourism in their own country. The distinction between the two categories of non-native speakers is sometimes blurry. In Denmark and Sweden the overwhelming majority of children are taught English in school -- does that constitute a special status?

The way CIA put it i guess is OK but you forgot that very important "small minority" - it is indeed a VERY small minority! :)
I would say there are just as many swedes here as germans - maybe more. And generally speaking a lot more people speak english.

So in terms of SEO and marketing Danish is the language you need to use to target most people here. You can use english to taget some but only a very few if you use german, greenlandic or Faroese. On top of that most SE's filter on .dk TLDs or will only accept pages in Danish.

Not wanting to be the cause of a civil war i Denmark, I will add CIA's "small minority" to the main entry above. I will strike Faroese when they gain their independence, which I understand is in the cards. As to Greenlandic, I guess it will remain one of the burdens that colonial powers have to carry ;)

In the south of Jylland there are people called german. born in Danmark, and their native language is german, though their nationality is danish. (called german minority, the same on the other site of the german-danish borderline in Schleswig-Holstein: native language danish with a "D" in the passport)
Not to become a historian I only want to say: there are many reasons that danske may deny the minority of german people.

That's what I thought too and that is why I have been unwilling to go along all the way with Mikkel on this subject. I do read history books and I was also mindful of the situation in my own country, where people living in the capital seem to have forgotten that we have a minority speaking samic. They were in fact here before we were, by the looks of it. Sweden's aboriginal population.
