Who do you recommend for a shopping cart?

We currently use Storefront.net software as well as Miva Merchant. We are building another site and I want to use someone different. I am hoping for free tech support, ability to handle up to at least 100 products, and a somewhat easy setup. I also want it easy for the customer to use. It takes about seven or more steps for a customer to buy a product on Storefront. People get easily confused or hate that it takes so long. Paypal seems to basic, but I almost like their simplicity.

Does anyone suggest any reliable, inexpensive shopping cart?

Thanks for your time!

What language? I would suggest www.spidersales.com or www.vpasp.com. If you are looking for PHP, check out www.oscommerce.com

Try clickcartpro.com

I use them for two of my sites. The price is $99 and for this the features are brilliant. Easy to set up and a great forum, if you need help.

I can't get enough of OSCommerce.
It's free.
It has a ton of features.
There are hundreds of contributions (mods) by other users.
There are many, many coders familiar with it, so it is easy to customize.

Do people build their site in Oscommerce or does their website point to the shopping cart when someone goes to buy something. Our current site works like this: domain.com -----> then when u hit buy now, it directs you to domain.com/detail.aspx. So, I created a website, then created a storefront. I assume some people build the site right in the shopping cart software.

I only used MIVA and StoreFront.net. I have never used oscommerce so I wonder, should I build the site, then find the shopping cart to use? Or do I buy the shopping cart, then add the site's info? Or do people do it either way, depending on their preference.

Thanks

What do you guys recommend for a hosted solution with an ASP like monstercommerce? I am assuming going that route is easier than buying the software and then having to host it etc.

I am currrently using instantestore.com which I pretty much like but they are not very search engine friendly.

My key criteria are:
-search engine friendly
-work with my gateway (goemerchant.com)
-can download orders into Excel file
-affiliate tracking would be nice
-a none generic looking template.
-doesnt require a lot of html and design skills.

I would not recommend a hosted solution at all - especially monstercommerce. We have had numerous clients switch because of different reasons. One just switched last week because the server was too slow for her. Monster Commerce wanted $700 to speed up her server. You are limited on your orders & one switched because he could not effectively maintain his archived orders.

In the long run - you are much better at your own solution. If you know enought about ASP - you can copy & paste all the code into your own template.

I noticed oscommerce wants you to use their host if you use their cart. What do you all think about this host? Are there any negatives aspects about the oscommerce's shopping cart or their host?

Thanks everyone!

Os commerce is a free package and doesnt come with a hosting service.

I think youve been to snappyserver and seen their hosted offering, all I can there is I too am thinking about using them.

Their technical service appears to be very knowledgeable having given replys in depth to my questions, on that basis I do intend to use them.

Someone in another forum was saying they make you use their host since they are free. That would be great if they didn't. Anyone know the what the server requirements are for oscommerce?

Thanks

They don't force you to use them as a host. It's simply an option.

Just go to the downloads section: [oscommerce.com...] & download the product. And then on to the contribution section: [oscommerce.com...] to get anything else you might need.

How search engine friendly are the osCommerce templates?

And how do they make money? I saw that they advertise with Google Adwords.

Hands down, Candypress. It is ASP based, like Storefront.net, only much cleaner code and much cheaper. Many add-on features are available.

YOYOKID:

the OS in OSCOMMERCE stands for open source which means the package has been written by hobbyists/people needing a certain type of cart.

This has then been turned loose on the world.

Regards Search engines, its written in PHP so it is Google friendly.
