I think .cn are quite "awkward" to register these days, is this so? Are they worth holding "just in case"? If so, why?

I also have a few .asia widget keyword names, not at all valuable, I am connsidering not re-newing simply because, whatever anyone may say, G et al will not rank these names well compared to a .com/net/org therefore they are now basically pointless insofar as I am concerned.

BTW, several are due for re-newal this week!

Any opinions?

How deep are your pockets?

Only you can decide when to let these go. :)

Never dabbled in the "non-generic" tlds... Have no idea what kind of potential value is there.

the only reason to consider a ccTLD is for geotargeting purposes.

certainly as far as G is concerned:

(other than the 19 ccTLDs that are commonly treated as gTLDs)

re:regional TLDs...

G will treat the .asia like .com so it is perhaps a "cultural acceptance" decision regarding whether .asia is easier to market than .com in that region.

Have the names ever been used for live domains, or were they always just-in-case registrations? If you've owned the name for a year, or multiple years, and never did anything with it, may as well admit you're never going to do anything.

Granted, the same goes for most of the contents of most of the drawers in your workshop, and when did you last clean those out?

it looks like it can only help if your site is targeting one specific region otherwise I don't see the point of these changes

Hi and thanks for your opinions, apologies for my belated response since I've been away on business.

It wasn't a question of cost re-newing these names, I'm just not too sure whether there is a future for them. They were bought and used at a time when they could rank internationally and in their respective regions, however G especially has changed so many ranking qualifications that many extensions these days have zero chance outside of local / national results and as for even .com and non-USA businesses ranking consistently in the USA SERPs, well, that disappeared years ago along with so-called parity of certain name extensions.

As it is I've re-newed them all and I'm going to experiment with a few of them in specific languages and target popular country-specific search engines.

Aha ! Well, it's not exactly new for me since I used this technique in the late 90s / early 00s but using .coms and some country-specifi tlds. Unfortunately they were like topsy and almost grew out of control and trying to keep them all up-to-date was a logisitcal nightmare with our then site structure. Html5 has changed all of this and I've actually started on the basic template for the sites, we'll see what happens!

Any news on first steps? So many times old becomes new again. Any results?

Can also understand if that is future stuff since TODAY is often handful enough!
