Are old domains with backlinks valuable?

Do old backlinks matter when selling?

I retired awhile ago from owning websites with ad revenue and am just now getting around to selling the domains. I have one site that used to get a million or so visits a day, and I think it has quite a few backlinks still. I'm not sure how to even check anymore. I did a search in Google for the name in quotes and got a few hundred thousand results.

I took the site down last year but the domain is still up with a placeholder page. We stopped updating it after we retired and it wasn't getting much traffic toward the end. It isn't a domain with particularly high value keywords and isn't a dot.com ending, but it had some good traffic in its hey day.

I'm trying to sell off my domains now and am wondering if this domain with a lot of backlinks worth anything? If so is there any place special to sell it other than a Godaddy auction? Any advice is appreciated.

Backlinks may matter to some, but not to all. Sometimes the domain is more powerful because it's a brand, or product.

Someone might buy it for the backlinks, but if they are good backlinks, it's quite likely they have scanned to find there's no site in existence, and might want to of have removed the link.

I pretty much got rid of my domains a while back, so someone might be along soon with more relevant experience.

Value is always in the eye of the beholder. If sold with content, to which the back links apply, might have more value ... but most folks buying domain names are doing it for the domain name itself.
