I know I don't have to explain what a TLD is but since I am a non-tech person, I will do it for my own clarity. Let's say I have a website called Example.com but I want a gTLD .Example.

I wanted to know how relevant would it be to procure such a domain since it is expensive. if there is a relevance in the long run, then I might consider it.

need guidance.

I think this is where you need to start at ICANN:

[forms.icann.org...]

You can read about all types of domains here:

[en.wikipedia.org...]

This is not a low-cost idea.

Extravagant idea. Not relevant for a "non-tech person". If you were operating . . let's see . . maybe a global network of top tier hotels in 100 or 200 of the most visited cities in the world then it might make sense . . ummm . . no, not even that would make much sense. Just not necessary.

Hey, thank you! just to understand, what if this is a global company? let's say in pharmaceuticals. what does this sTLD actually help in?

It has been done already by Canon:

[global.canon...]

Is this what you are thinking of?

You can't create your own TLD as you wish, when you want. You need to fill an application with the ICANN, prove you have the finances to manage it. It's not just a matter of paying $200.000 , then you need to set up the infrastructures to handle the TLD (but I think that Afilias has a service where they do it for you). But, then the TLD is review only at given moment, and I think that the ICANN has not scheduled the next round.

Also, I think that if you "wonder if...", then it means this is not something you should bother trying to do.

Facebook didn't even bother submitting an application to have its own TLD, while it could have make sense to have one in their case.
