Hi, I want to transfer a .net domain from one DNS service provider to another. However, the current registry status of that domain is 'locked' and I don't know how to remove the lock. I don't see any option in the management panel that allows me to change the registry status. What can I do? Many thanks.

Contact the registrar directly (or check their online help)?

All the registrars I've used had the option to lock/unlock on the online management panel. Some may have automatic locks (that can't be changed) if it's within a certain number of days of the expiration (or registration).

Usually "locking" refers to inter-registrar or inter-registrant transfers = transfer, outright, of domain ownership and control.

Are you certain you aren't confusing GUI options? My domains are "locked" but that hasn't impaired my ability to change DNS settings.

YMMV. Follow LiA's advice and check with the registrar, their faq, etc. Many have a FAQ explaining DNS updates and changes.

Lastly, your registrar may use another word besides "lock" in their GUI / navigation.

Actually, there are two values, one is 'registry status' which is 'lock' and 'registrar status' which is 'active'. I can't see any option where I can change any of these two parameters.

are you transferring the domain, or simply changing nameservers?

That's an entirely different process than changing DNS.

The protocol for issues such as this are:

1) Ask a knowledgeable friend who users the same registrar "Where's the . . . ?"
2) Refer to the registrar's Help or FAQ page
3) Email the registrar's tech support.
4) Call tech support.
5) Ask the same questions of the "receiving registrar"?
6) Google "~Registrar Name domain transfer process"
