Selling a 3 character domain - for sale page vs auction?

I have a 3 character domain name (one letter and two numbers) that I am willing to sell.
I have no idea what it is worth and so I would like to ask your opinion as to whether I should set up a simple for sale page and just wait for someone to make an offer, or put it up for auction somewhere.

I get around 3-4 emails a month (mainly in Chinese) from people wanting to buy the name, but asking me to quote a price.
I don't ever reply to these, partly because I don't know what the domain could achieve.

Any advice appreciated.

A well publicized auction can help set a price but, unless you manage to attract an end user, auction prices tend towards "re-seller prices" - which are ~10% of the price someone (the next fool) hopes / expects / believes he/she can and will eventually get when he sells the domain . . to an end user.

Hope springs eternal.

Maybe you'll get lucky but I wouldn't get to excited about most letter + two number domains. If I were in your shoes I'd check all the past reports of domain sales to see if there are sales of similar domains.

Good luck.

Putting up a for sale sign means that you are waiting, hopefully, for someone to happen by, see it for sale and make an offer whereas at least at an auction genuine buyers will be there and see it is available.

Obviously everyone will want to buy it as cheap as possible however you only have to have two keen bidders and anything could happen.

Judging by recent auctions prices are all over the place therefore don't set your hopes too high and perchance you do sell it and get a good price you'll really have something to smile about.

I do assume it's a .com? Most other extensions are really cheap with generic 3 letter .tlds going for very low money.
