So i have a mildly (for me) successful sports blog. I decided that the way i'm going to get to where i want, is to have a network of mildly successful sports blog, splitting revenue with those who edit, while i do all the it stuff, and continue writing on the original.

That's neither here or there.. here is my problem.

I Found a GREAT domain name, i really like it, but..

Lets Say the domain i found was Example.com and there already is a major website / media conglomerate called (a very similar name). How close is too close for me to even bother with?

Thanks

[edit reason] Let's avoid particulars, especially if we're talking potential trademark infringement [/edit]

If the domain you're thinking of would create confusion for someone else's trademark, that's just asking for trouble.

Two kinds of trouble, actually ... one is that they might take legal action and you might lose a lot. The other is that if they're already well known, any promotion you attempt might end up building more mindshare for them than for yourself.

My opinion: Keep looking for a domain that you can develop as your own rock-solid brand.
