Domain name disputes reach record high

The number of disputes over web domain names hit a record high over the past 12 months, including some high-profile cases involving fashion brand Gucci, search giant Google and socialite Paris Hilton.

There were 2,944 disputes over internet addresses in the 12 months to July 2012, up 6% on the year before, according to legal information provider Sweet & Maxwell.

I think that some dispute processes allow the complainant to include multiple domain names in the one complaint. Without that option, the number might be higher. With unmanaged TLDs, the numbers of disputes provide an insight into the importance of the TLDs.
