I've got about 40 domains at Godaddy, and now hearing the news that the CEO proudly went hunting and killing elephants in Africa makes me want to switch to another domain. Am I overreacting? Any recommendations on a transfer?

Wasn't that a while ago?

If you're against it I would do something more useful than switch to another registrar. i.e. start a blog and write about it, start a campaign for animal rights etc...

Yeah you're right, that WAS in March. I'm just finding out now on a Pulse update "Why you shouldn't do business with GoDaddy". Don't know why they just sent that out now. Anyway, I would think there is nothing more useful than hitting someone in their pocketbook. Of course just little old me pulling 40 domains is nothing to them. But if more people do it, it adds up. Maybe I'm making too much of it.

With rare exception "call to action" posts ("Don't do business with . . ", "Let's all . . ) are removed from the WebmasterWorld forums. Political, moral and similar issues - while important - just aren't WebmasterWorld's stock in trade.

Given BP's zest for controversy and the public eye (ex., banned SuperBowl ads, sex themed ads, etc.) I think an earlier discussion of the topic - with its inevitable cries of "bad man/company / dump them" - was handled as an "exceptional circumstances case", allowing a wider response. We did this awhile ago, so this thread should have a limited shelf life in any event.

AFAIC it makes perfect sense to vote one's conscience with one's pocketbook.

Now, about all those goods produced in countries that allow for child labor, used foreced labor, pay sweatshop wages, ban collective bargaining (Hey, didn't the USA just pass such laws?), etc. . . . are you going to stop "supporting them" too? Might have to clear out half the stuff in your house or apartment. :-/

Still, if we don't start voting our pocketbooks more conscientiously we're sure to go nowhere but to heck or beyond. :-/

No more filling of gas tanks, either, that's bad for the climate . . and turn down those thermostats . .

Argh. It's so challenging to be . . good?

But if more people do it, it adds up.

That did happen back in March or April. There's a third party site that, although it's not necessarily accurate, showed GD's domain stats considerably fell during that event.

Only...that lasted for about two weeks before GD's stats went back up again.
