France Authorises 30,000 Previously Banned Domains [old.news.yahoo.com]

French Internet authorities have been swamped by demands for domain names since a new law authorised the use of around 30,000 previously banned website addresses such as "islam.fr" and "internet.fr".

The decree authorising the new law was published on Wednesday, and French authorities say they now have to deal with over 6,000 requests that have been made since the law was passed a month ago.

That domain is "old.news.yahoo" and doesn't have a year. Can you confirm it is this year?

I am wondering if my highly expensive attempt to buy "net.fr" in 200X (which involved setting up a French company called "net" which required 20,000 Euros in capital as I recall) means I have some kind of "first dibs" rights now?

This is going to be the cause of a great many lawsuits here ..inspite of what the AFNIC thinks are "protections" built in to the "relaxation"..

Confirmation here ..AFNIC ( French registrar authority ..equivalent to ICANN ) dates 1st July 2011 and 3rd August 2011.

Has been possible to register previously forbidden domaine names as dot frs since 1st July 2011..confirmed .

Publication in the "Journal Officiel" was on the 3rd August 2011 ..making it French Law..

Specific conditions still apply as of 08.08.2011 in order to be able to register .fr domains of any sort ..
