Would you buy this domain?

I am bidding on a domain that has some good backlinks

I have run across a domain that was used for a specific nitch. Doing some research on it I discovered some really good nitch specific links going to this domain. In the research I have also discovered the owner of the domain did some shady stuff, not with the domain but in the business dealings he did with clients. I can't find anything negative with the domain itself just the past owner to the domain. Some folks in this nitch posted some bad stuff about the person, and in the post added the domain name to the post.

I was wondering would you buy it?

I am not planning on using it for a website but to take advantage of the traffic the links are sending to the domain.

Yes - however I would put a large banner on the site saying "Under New Ownership"

Ian kind of leaning that way but I really want the traffic from the links. The links are of great value due to the sites they are coming from. If I buy it I will do the banner deal and see how much traffic is coming in and make a decision then. Thanks.
