Sex.com, widely considered to be among the most valuable web addresses in the world, was sold for $13 million by its bankrupt owner, Escom.
Sex.com is widely considered to be among the most valuable web addresses in the world.
In court papers filed on Monday, the company said Clover Holdings was the successful bidder for the domain name. The deal is yet to be approved by the bankruptcy court.
It was not immediately clear what Clover Holdings plans to do with the web address.
In May, Escom reached an agreement with its creditors to auction the sex.com name and hired Sedo.com, a domain name marketplace, to find potential buyers.
Escom reportedly bought the domain name for $14 million in 2006.
It would have been funny if it had been bought by some extremist morality group that then posted a huge "Shame on you for visiting this site!" splash page.
Considering what the domain has been through over the years, maybe it needs some rehabilitation. :)

I read about its sale every couple of years or so. Has anybody ever monetized it?

In the day the domain was reported to be making that amount of coin every 1-2 years.
