What do you guys think of .ASIA TLD

Would you buy great keywords with the extension .ASIA?
for example Chinese.ASIA? How would you compare it with Chinese.com
these are taken already and I just used them as an example.
if you were to set a price for each how would you compare?

Well .com is a global TLD. The .asia rTLD is an unproven regional TLD. The last regional TLD, .eu is a disaster zone with only 13.37% of .eu websites active/unique. It is a gamble.

also, if you have a very good domain name that the .com has already been taken and parked, do you think you should purchase keyword.asia and do you think you will get google trafficm or does google.com only send traffic to .com TLD's?

The problem with .asia is that it is competing with .in, .tw and .cn and the other Asian ccTLDs. It also has to comepte with .com/net/org. That's why it is a gamble. If the .com version of a domain is parked and the .asia is developed, then it will benefit from Google traffic.

Do you think .asia has great potential since it includes China and India considering their population?

Do you think their are top 3-4 char keywords for .Asia since it is fairly new (6 months!)? Or would you say most of the good ones are already taken!

.asia is a continent Tld. Does a continent really need it's own tld?...no.

.eu (and to a certain extent .lat) make sense due to the uniformity of the space, the 'lack' of borders, the common currency, common laws, etc.

What do India and China have in common culture-wise? Not much at all.

Most of my business is done in the Asia region and I liked the concept and had decided the names I required however I am shocked by the names purportedly going up for auction:

It's late, I'm tired...am I missing something or are loads of people going to be facing huge law suits should they buy these recognised trade names?

The landrush for this started today and I notice that one of the names I applied for, a generic name used by a large Corp as a trademark although it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual name, is marked as "registration failed", however all the others have been submitted to the registry.

Does anyone know if there is a full list, preferably with a link, of all the names already registered as yet?

I've heard several rumors, and also heard that Asia.Asia information is not accurate and up to date!

HuskyPup: I don't think you get charged if you don't get the domain so I wouldn't worry about it that much. You might wanna double check on that...

My main registrar doesn't charge for unsuccessful applications PLUS they're doing a pretty good deal at the moment:-)

According to my registrar:

"# Unlike other Landrush periods in the past, .asia does not make use of the "first come, first served" principle - this means, that all applications entered during a period count the same. If there are more than one applications for a single domain name, all applicants automatically are invited to an auction for this domain name. This auction is supervised by DotAsia."

I assume that any duplicate applications before 12th March "automatically are invited to an auction".

So Im hoping Pre-registration Landrush is also considered a period and that Ill find out tonight if I own the domains or not, assuming no one else pre-registered the same names.

From what I understand:
If you pre-register a domain, you will be informed by the 21st of Feb whether you own it or not. If no one else pre-registered them, you become owner and your pending application changes its status to 'Private - Locked', however, if there is more than one application for that particular domain, you have to start bidding on it and have until March 26th to win the domain.

After March 26th, registration becomes based on first-come first-served, similar to the .com's right now.

Is that correct?

Last night my registrar company said it will take anywhere from 24-hours to 3 days to 1 week! I guess in other words they dont know whats going on!

Since I have learned over the last ten years the necessity of automatically blocking all of Asia from every server I set up because of the deluge of spam, viral messages and break-in attempts that come from that part of the world - and I am certainly not the only one who feels this way - I wonder why people in the West would ever want to use a .asia domain name.

I just paid $90 for an "application" for an .asia domain.
If I got it for that, I would be thrilled.
However, realistically, I know I just paid to enter an auction.

My registrar had a special half-price offer of $20 for two years if applied for by the 21st.
