Zeal listings out of MSN?

With Passport: out, without Passport: in

After checking rankings, because traffic to one of my pages had dropped this morning, I found that MSN.com doesn't seem to display the Zeal listings ("WEB DIRECTORY SITES") anymore. However, when I tried my other browsers that don't have a Passport cookie, I found that they are still shown for that.

The one with the automatic Passport login displays a different logo now: "Beta MSN search."

Major changes with tons of listings removed, but in any case it almost certainly is deliberate so we'll just have to see what MSN's next move is.

As of this morning, I think (all or most) Zeal listings are out of MSN search results.

Any site I have added is gone. I have only been submitting since 4/29.

There are sites of mine that were added by others still showing up though, but these are old sites.

I wonder if they rolled back to an old directory?

I should qualify my last statement - the pages are all still in Zeal, but they are no longer showing up in the MSN directory and even very few in the SERPs.

I agree, msn has removed most of the non-commercial listings. It would make more sense to change everything at once since the serps are less relevant with their current method. MSN could be harming themselves with all the commercial results since this is very noticable to users. It looks like Yahoo is going to gain ground with the Altavista/Alltheweb/Inktomi combination.

It goes back to the issue other search engines that have disappeared from site have had in the past: they have failed to appreciate the fact that users want to see results based on the sites most relevant to their search queries, and not who pays the most to get listed.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Yahoo can watch in horror as MSN results currently are more likely to show the Inktomi garbage results than when more directory listings showed. Inktomi is in no way ready for prime time.
