I need some input and guidance into researching the correct solution. I am looking to have similar web sites for business owners, but some of the pages will be different (about us and services) and the other 4 or 5 pages will be generic. I am NOT looking to have to maintain 60 different web sites if I have a sentence of text change on one of the pages that remain static across all of the 60 web sites. Ideally, I would even prefer to offer each business owner their own domain name, but could do www.ourdomain.com/name1, www.ourdomain.com/name2, etc... if this was a lot easier. Thanks for any assistance.

Umbraco could be a solution. You can create multiple sites within a single install and they can share common components as needed.

Save yourself the trouble, just create a single website and then create one page describing all your various business locations (Not one page for each). If you proceed as you describe in a best case situation Google will select one of the 60 duplicate websites and display it. In worst case Google will consider these doorway pages and penalize the whole lot. Good luck!

It isn't various business locations. It is different business owners, so I wouldn't want them all on one page. I don't care too much what google thinks or how they rank the web sites. This is more of a marketing package for the business owners at a local level. They may get more business by simply local referrals and handing out flyers. I think I can program something in php that is database driven which might be the easiest thing to do, but I am open to other suggestions.

Depending on your requirements, WordPress also offers BuddyPress [buddypress.org] for "communities".
