Wordpress Sidebar Content

Can it cause duplicate content?

Hi, I have built a friends website using Wordpress CMS. The website is legit, all unique content built into a profile type website. The website only has about 7 or 8 pages. The domain is an exact match 3 word domain and not heavily optimized. The content was created more at lead conversion rather than keywords, although there are a couple keywords in the content with some related.

I ran into a problem where the homepage has stopped ranking and this got me thinking of all sorts of problems. One area I need to get clear is that when I built the website he asked me to put in a testimonial into the sidebar. This has caused the testimonial to feature on all the pages.

The testimonial is 125 words.

My question is, can this cause duplicate content issues? The website has been struggling since the Panda update and there is no other reason why the website shouldn't be doing well.

Thank you

traffik daddy, I seriously doubt that Google would consider this duplicate content. One of my sites has over 5,000 pages and a lot of the same content (including testimonials) is on most of the pages.

Your issue lies someplace else imho. I'm thinking that a 7-8 page site simply does not have enough content to have survived Panda.

Thanks. I did get advised to add more content but my problem is the homepage has simply stopped ranking and Google has started to rewrite all of the titles on all of the pages for the keywords that the homepage is targeting. However, if I run a site: command then the title are written correctly.

I have dug and dug for information but I cant seem to figure this one out. I have been around SEO for a long time (see my reg date) but this one has me bewildered.
