thumbnail / screenshot - website

Hello everybody,

I've got a question that probably is asked a few times before, however i searched this forum and the answers i find date back to 2006 ...

nowadays there are websites that provide a service to make a screenshot of any website on a given URL.

My question is, is there software available that allows me to do it on my hosted server. I have a website and i would like to use this.

The general idea is, .. for example in PHP

makeimagefromurl(?)

Input URL of website
Output thumnail screenshot of that URL

There's a number of plug-ins that do the same thing and don't require fees. Might look at those.

That said, screen shot sites (and their little thumbs, too) are mighty low on my list of places I will visit more than once, or stay for any length of time. Two reasons: First, there's no content on screen shot sites, just pretty pictures. Second, USEFUL screen shots regarding methods and procedures are okay, all the rest are merely irritating. Give me a link and a reason to visit, and I'll go look at that site myself.

most of those plugins require an offsite connection. thats not what i am looking for, i am looking for a solution that can run on local resources.

If those sites are very low on YOUR list of places, then you are not part of my target audience.

Gotcha! No offense taken. I believe there are a number of Open Source projects that do what you're looking for. Might take a look at Source Forge.
