WordPress 2.9 Released

Since there's been some talk about it here recently wanted to let everyone know it's been released. I look forward to checking it out myself.

Mods if thread/title is overreaching the more laid back stance on talking about specific systems in here, please delete.

As of this version, Wordpress and WordpressMU are fully merged (meaning there will no longer be a WPMU).

Also, there is some versioning (trash), better image management and simpler video integration.

I think the code merge on WP and WPMU is coming in 3.0 and is not included in this release.
"I must say it has whetted our appetite for 3.0, which is coming next (probably this spring) and will include at the very least the merge of MU with the WordPress core,"

with regards to the features in this release, I have no interest to manipulate images within WP. Rather do that with graphics software. Trash feature is ho-hum. I do like the multi plugin update though you shouldnt be using huge numbers of plugins for security and performance reasons. Video embedding is my favorite because plugins were necessary to do this easily in the past.

Thanks. I thought they announced it for this release a long time ago. Did it get dropped or did I misunderstand?

That's what I thought I've read too, which is why I was so excited for release.

I looked around. There was never an announced merge with 2.9, but a lot of people were guessing/thinking/hoping/dreading that it would happen at that point. But that has come and gone and the merge didn't happen, so look for it in 3.0.

It was a rumour and wishful thinking and I was hoping also. I keep an eye on Matt or Donnacha's blogs since they are the key players and neither had said it would be 2.9 Looks like it will be set for 3.0 barring complications.
